What does "ceili" mean?
The broadest meaning of the Irish word ceili (pronounced kay’ lee) is "gathering" or "party." More specifically, a ceili is a social event where ceilis and/or sets are danced, perhaps with some waltzes or two-hand dances mixed in. The ceilis sponsored by Sets in the 'Burg are all set dance ceilis -- with a waltz or two included. A ceili where only ceili dancing is done is sometimes called a "fior ceili."
